Hong Kong accommodation tips Hotel rooms in Hong Kong are at their top rack rate during the peak holiday travel seasons of March/April, October/November and Chinese New Year. Hong Kong is notoriously short of hotel room accommodation so it's not wise to book at the last minute. Holiday tip ... if your flights are for travel to Hong Kong at a different time of the year, hotel rooms are generally lower priced - up to 50% less - and it's well worth asking if there are package deals or room specials so you can organise the cheapest possible holiday with affordable accommodation. Hotel room rates are largely dependent upon their harbour views rather than their floorspace and rates are often astronomical for rooms on the highest floors with sweeping views. Hotel rooms facing inland are usually much cheaper than rooms on the opposite side of the hotel with harbour views. The cheapest off-peak hotel room rates in Hong Kong mostly start from around HK$600 for a double room without views. Hotel service charges and taxes add 13% to the final bill. Hong Kong certainly doesn't have the cheapest travel accommodation in Asia but it's worth every penny if you want an exciting holiday. Kowloon on the southern tip of the mainland peninsula is where you're most likely to find budget accommodation. Kowloon is a residential/industrial smorgasbord crammed into about six kilometres and is among the most densely populated areas on earth.
